Apple reportedly almost released a 15″ MacBook Air in 2010, but had to scrap the device due to design issues, and will be releasing the 15″ MacBook Air early next year instead.

MacRumors reports today that Apple was oh, so close to releasing the MacBook Air with an AMD CPU. Claims are that “Apple had late stage AMD Llano based MacBook Air prototypes last spring and had been ‘on the verge of production’.”

HP have launched a direct competitor to Apple’s Macbook Air, the Folio 13 Ultrabook. HP’s first “business Ultrabook” will be available from December 7th and will cost $900, which is $100 dollars cheaper than the basic Macbook Air model.

Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty provides the latest NPD figures, showing that Apple’s popular MacBook Air now make up 28 percent of the company’s notebook shipments, up from 8% in the first half of this year.
