Grindr – iPhone App For Gay Dating Scene Going Straight

Grindr, a gay dating app that helps men met other interesting men is launching a straight version. The Grindr app is quite interesting as it uses GPS technology to match likeminded people within a specific range.

Joel Simkhai, Grindr’s founder, claims to have received thousands of requests to launch a straight & female-friendly version of their service. However, going straight is not without its complexities. Simkhai, in a recent interview with the Guardian, said “For a straight woman, a guy who is 400ft away from her? So what. It happens all the time. We have got to provide more. Grindr is very photo-centric. Women obviously want to see someone that they might find attractive, but they need to know more than that.”

Grindr currently serves more than 1.5 million members and is most popular in London, New York, and LA.

They currently have an iPhone, iPad, Androdid and Blackberry version of their popular dating app. And while there is no definitive launch date for the straight version, Simkahi hopes to to have the site live in “the very near future”.
