Apple Hire Carbon Fiber Expert. iDevices Would See Significant Weight Loss.

Apple could soon be replacing their aluminum casing with carbon fiber.

A move to carbon fiber would result in a significant weight reduction in devices such as the Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, and of course in Apple’s range of mobile iDevices.

Apple recently added Kevin Kenney to their brains trust. The acquisition of Kenney, former CEO & President of Kestral Bicycles, spent 14 years building carbon fiber bicycles and previously worked with Apple on a patent called “Reinforced Device Housing”. That patent covered an outer case for electronic devices made out of ultra-strong carbon fiber.

Kenney holds the role of Senior Composites Engineer at Apple.

Carbon fiber phones? Looks like the space age has finally come to planet Earth.
