Mysterious new iOS device name shows up in App Store

Apple has quickly pulled a mysterious device name that was, until this morning, showing up in the iTunes App Store. What elusive iOS-supported device is code-named ix.Mac.MarketingName? Engadget noted that it was showing up on several apps including Panic’s SSH client Prompt [iTunes, $4.99].

Is it a revision of Apple TV that will support apps? Could it be an as yet unnamed iOS device? I’d say Apple TV is the likeliest candidate. Submit your crazy theories below.

James first bit into Apple when his mom and dad bought an Apple IIe in 1986. He switched to Wintel in the mid 90s when Apple was in a tailspin and back again to an iBook in 2005 when things were looking brighter. Hopefully there is no turning back to the dark side now.
