New Apple Wireless Keyboard May Be In The Works – With Backlighting!

The folks over at 9to5Mac have dug up some interesting information in the new 2011 iMacs – It seems that the Keyboard pane in System Preferences contains the same option to illuminate the keyboard that MacBook Pros have.

This might be a fluke, but I doubt it. On the other hand, it might indicate that Apple is set to release a new wired or wireless keyboard for the iMac that will feature illuminated keys – something a lot of people have been wishing for! It’s also notable that previous iMacs, as well as all other macs without standard backlit keyboards, do not have this option.

Most Macs, even those without lit keyboards, have ambient light sensors to adjust screen brightness, so it seems there’s already a good method at hand to control the keyboard backlighting.

I’m not sure how strong of an indicator this is, but I am actually quite hopeful that a backlit external keyboard is in fact on the way.
