Samsung Notebook Series 9 To Compete With Macbook Air

Samsung, Apple’s on and off again best friend forever, is bringing their 2.3 lbs Series 9 to market to compete with the Macbook Air. The 11.6-inch lightweight is now shipping from retailers in the US. The slim aluminum bodied laptop comes in at .64 inches of thickness – a whopping 0.04 inches thinner than the Macbook Air.

However, they both come in at 2.3lbs so it’s a tie in the “lighter than Air” claim.

The Samsung Series 9 retails at $1,159.99 from Amazon, has a 64GB SSD, boots up in 3 seconds, has 7 hour battery life, uses a 1.33GHz Intel Core i3 Dual Core Processor, and has 2GBs of RAM.

In contrast, the 11-inch 64GB SSD Air costs $999 and uses the older Core 2 Duo processors but everything else looks much for muchness.

The price point for the Series 9 is a bit strange too. You would expect rivals to attempt to undercut Apple on the price but instead they opted to copy the Air and charge a bit more.

Nice strategy! Let us know how it works out.
