Supply Problems Ease, Apple To Manufacture iPad 2’s More Quickly

Production concerns have been plaguing the iPad 2 for quite some time now, making getting your hands on one of the popular tablets a difficult prospect. Word has now come, however, that the situation has significantly improved.

The key to the supply improvement is said to be changes made in overseas manufacturing, says Shaw Wu, analyst for Sterne Agree

The key to the improved supplies has been changes that were made in overseas manufacturing, according to Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu. Components for the iPad 2′s touch panels are specifically among those supplies that the chain has been improved on. In January, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant announced a $3.9 billion investment in suppliers of unnamed components.

The increased flow of iPad 2 components could enable Apple to almost double the number of new tablets sold, shipping more than 4 million units. That would be a dramatic increase over the 2.4 to 2.5 million iPad 2s reportedly sold in March.

This does seem like good news, though I wonder how the iPad 2 manufacturing situation might be affected by the explosion at Foxconn that occurred earlier today…
