Apple Post Official iCloud FAQ, Kills Gallery, iDisk, and iWeb For Good!

Apple has just posted a new web page with the purpose of answering people’s questions about transitioning from MobileMe to iCloud, Apple’s new (free) service that launches this fall. The new page states which services will and won’t be sticking around by the time Fall rolls around.

The following list shows which MobileMe services will and won’t be available when iCloud officially launches this fall:

In addition, iCloud will add the following new services:

  • iTunes in the Cloud
  • Photo Stream
  • Documents in the Cloud
  • Automatic downloads and purchase history for apps and books
  • Backup and restore

All in all, unless you depend on iDisk, iWeb, or MobileMe galleries, the trade off seems to be pretty good! More service for less, no wait, NO money! The site also says that users will be able to migrate their current .Mac or MobileMe username to the iCloud service. Further, the document confirms that web apps will still be available for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Find My iPhone, and will become available at iCloud.com later this fall.

You can find much more information over at Apple’s new iCloud Transition page. I highly recommend that you take a look.

I’m pretty excited for iCloud to roll out. What about you? Sound off in the comments!
