Apple To Give Pro-Rated Refunds For MobileMe Subscriptions

With the announcement of the free iCloud at WWDC, which largely replaces the $99 annual MobileMe services, some consumers who recently purchased or renewed their subscriptions are unhappy. Fortunately, however, Apple has decided to begin offering pro-rated refunds for some users.

Apple has now announced that users who wish to cancel their MobileMe subscription in favor of iCloud this fall will be able to receive a refund of the unused portion of their services, not including the free extension that Apple granted to all MobileMe users through June of next year.

While the Apple support document mentioning this mentions people that purchased retail boxed copies of MobileMe, and specifically does not address users who simply auto-renewed their services, I have a feeling that Apple is going to want to keep those users happy as well.

One word of caution, however: If you cancel your MobileMe service prior to the official release of iCloud this fall, you will lose any files you have stored, and lose access to your email, contacts, and ability to sync data until iCloud is officially unveiled.

For more information, please check out Apple’s Support article by clicking here, and for the MobileMe Refund Form please click here. For users that did not purchase a retail boxed copy of MobileMe, I encourage you to call up AppleCare and discuss the matter.
