Review: N.O.V.A. 2 For Mac

One of the best first person shooters on the iOS finally makes its way to the Mac App Store. N.O.V.A. 2 is one of the most in depth first person shooters on the

App Store, mainly for the reason of the long story, a 13 chapter single player mode. Of course there are a lot of first person shooters on the App Store which have a pretty decent storyline, but the one in N.O.V.A. 2 is a step above the rest. The single player mode also contains a wide variety of weapons and improved A.I. which react really well to getting attacked.

Gameplay

The gameplay in N.O.V.A 2 has so much to offer from both the single and multiplayer. In single-player mode the enemies aren’t as easy to kill as you would think, even in the early levels. It takes a lot to get them down. They’re also really smart and they know when to duck and take cover. There are over  dozen weapons to choose from in N.O.V.A. 2 including sniper rifles, shotguns, and of course no FPS is complete without an assault rifles. The multiplayer mode includes 1-10 players locally or online and 5 different modes including Capture The Flag and Deathmatch. There is also 10 maps which you can choose from to play in.

Graphics

The graphics in N.O.V.A. 2 are really  ice. All the environments and textures look great. In the early level you go through a jungle then water, which really take advantage to show off how nice the graphics are in this game. The enemies look pretty good too. They have a lot of detail for what they are. Gameloft has some other first person shooters with nice graphics that they take pride in. Especially on the Mac I think they wanted to take advantage of everything they had here, and they accomplished that with N.O.V.A. 2.

Audio

I like the audio in N.O.V.A. 2. In particular, some of the audio that really stands out is from the sound of the weapons, which sound really good coming from the enemies and yourself. Other than that, when you get hit, it sounds pretty accurate to how much damage you take. The dialog from all the characters sound great and it helps the story move along well.

Verdict

N.O.V.A 2 takes a great leap forward from the first N.O.V.A. There’s a lot of replay value. The multiplayer is a lot of fun. It will keep you glued for hours. There’s a great selection of weapons, maps, and multiplayer modes. It’s worth every penny. At sometimes the enemies can get repetitive. The upgrades between levels are helpful. there are plenty to choose from. When you go play onlibe you have to sign into Gameloft Live. You get different kind of achievements. There is also matchmaking and worldwide leaderboards, which make playing multiplayer a fun experience. If you;re looking for a new FPS for your Mac, don’t miss out on N.O.V.A 2. It is cheaper than most FPS game on the Mac App Store which is great, being N.O.V.A. 2 is one of the better first person shooters out there.
