Financial Times Apps Removed From App Store Over Dispute

iPhone & iPad Apps for the Financial Times are no longer listed in the App Store.

The FT and Apple had previously clashed over in-app subscriptions that would see Apple take a 30% cut of the FT’s sales from subscribers though their iPhone and iPad apps. The FT responded by creating an iOS specific web app that bypassed the need for users to subscribe to their service through an iPad/iPhone – therefore saving the FT 30% of their sales.

That fracas seemed to have died down while Apple and The FT began talks to find a middle ground. Since then the FT began offering users the option of using either their web app or the iOS apps.

However, the two content giants where not able to find that middle ground and the result is no more iOS apps in the App Store for The FT. The most recent clash is over Apple’s stand that personal data from subscribers must go through the App Store therefore giving Apple access to valuable information about The FT’s subscribers.

A spokesman from The FT said:

“We’re encouraging our readers to switch immediately to the new FT web app, as many new features and sections will be added over the coming weeks. Make sure you don’t miss out on these updates,”
