Latest iPhone 5 Rumor: Metal Chassis To Replace Glass & < 4" Screen

A fresh report from DigiTimes has poured cold water on the previous rumors of a 4.2″ display for the iPhone 5. The DigiTimes report claims the screen will still come in at under 4″.

DigiTimes cites panel suppliers as their source and also claim that Apple will ditch the reinforced glass for a metal chassis.

One thing to be weary of is DigiTimes reference to a video that was “found” on Apple.com, but turned out to be an elaborate and poorly produced video hoax.

Despite rumors about iPhone 5 featuring a 4.2-inch panel circulating within the IT market for a while, following a leak from Appleā€™s website in Switzerland in early August

The Taiwan based DigiTimes has a solid reputation in the Apple rumors sphere and we’re not going to hold that faux pas against them.

And that folks, is pretty much it. According to sources there will be very little visual difference between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 other than the metal chassis which should also make the iPhone 5 slightly thinner.

The sources added that the iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel with a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger.
