Report: Apple Set To Discontinue The Magic Mouse

I hope you aren’t a big fan of Apple’s Magic Mouse, because the Magic Trackpad may soon be the only Apple pointing device in town. Even though it’s been around for such a short time, Apple reportedly may be killing off the Magic Mouse in favor of their more gesture-friendly alternative.

The report comes to us from CultofMac, who cites a “previously reliable source” in Apple retail. According to their source, Magic Mouse inventory is no longer being replenished for Apple Retail Stores, and Apple is indeed phasing out the Magic Mouse.

On the one hand, this doesn’t seem like much of a shocker, especially considering how heavily OS X Lion relies on the use of gestures (which don’t work well with the Magic Mouse). On the other hand, it’s difficult for me to imagine Apple abandoning the mouse for good – there are still a few things that a mouse can do better than a trackpad, especially when precise movements are required.

I suppose only time will tell whether this ends up being true or not. In the meantime, maybe you should study up on those new gestures just in case!
