Retailers Offer iPod Discounts Ahead Of Expected Refresh

Retailers, including OfficeMax, are beginning to offer significant discounts on Apple’s current iPod models, suggesting that Apple is likely to update their iPod lineup soon, possibly this September.

OfficeMax’s clearance extends discounts of up to 34%. Currently, the only iPod Touch listed on the website is a 32GB model, and is only available in brick-and-mortar stores, while two iPod Nanos are being listed as discontinued, despite the fact that Apple is still selling them.

Best Buy is also discounting all of their iPods, with discounts ranting from $3 to $35 depending on models, and Fry’s Electronics is showing similar discounts to those at Best Buy.

These sales strongly indicate that Apple is likely to announce updated iPod models. Since Apple traditionally holds an iPod event each September, it’s likely that new models will be introduced in the coming weeks at that event.
