Talkatone For iOS Updated With Facebook Calling & Chat

Talkatone, a voice service and iOS app that uses Google Voice to let you make free phone calls over WiFi and 3G, has just updated and expanded their app with Facebook support, allowing you to call or chat with your Facebook friends as well.

Starting today, Talkatone for iOS (Free, Universal, App Store Link) will now allow you to call your Facebook friends over your choice of WiFi or 3G, and also allows you to receive free push notifications for Facebook Chat.

To use the Facebook calling features you simply need to download Talkatone, sign in using Facebook Connect, and invite your friends to talk. The only caution is that the person you are trying to call also must be using Talkatone, or the call will not go through.

Your call request posts the Talkatone invite to their wall with the message, “I am calling you on Facebook from Talkatone. You can get it on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, and call me back for free.” It’s a bit of a spammy tactic – but that’s the price of free calling I suppose. It’s incredibly spammy, which is I guess the price you pay for free phone calls.

If you don’t yet have Talkatone for iOS, it’s available immediately through the iTunes App Store (Free, Universal, App Store Link).
