Al Gore “Confirms” New iPhones To Launch In October

Apple board member and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has conformed that new iPhones will be released in October, reports TheNextWeb, specifically stating that “the new iPhones would be out next month” at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit today.

The report follows an earlier report suggesting that Apple will be announcing the iPhone 5 on October 4th. The specific quote, according to Stuff Magazine editor Toby Shapshak, was “Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug.” Gore’s use of iPhone’s in the plural form may indicate that Apple is indeed releasing multiple iPhone models next month, although it may simply be a manner of speech.

Many rumors have suggested multiple iPhones, both an iPhone 5 and an iPhone “4S” or iPhone 4 “Plus”, with the latter being pushed as a less expensive option, and perhaps targeted more towards Chinese consumers.

Of course, it’s always possible that Gore misspoke, or was simply reflecting his opinion based on rumors, but his position on Apple’s board, and the fact that he was at a public conference would make that a pretty significant error in judgement.
