Our favorite gadget gurus over at iFixit have once again donned their screwdrivers and spudgers, this time tearing down Apple’s new 27″ Thunderbolt Display, exposing its innards for the world to see.
As iFixit reveals, the Thunderbolt Display is surprisingly easy to dismantle, and packs a truly astonishing amount of technology inside, in fact iFixit themselves state that “it’s hard to believe there’s no computer inside.”
Apparently packing a powerful dock for your Mac into a Thunderbolt-enabled display simply takes a lot of hardware. iFixit also notes that the 27″ IPS display used in the Thunderbolt Display is the same model used in the 2009 27″ iMac.
It’s also worth noting that the new display also includes a surprisingly powerful sound system, as iFixit found some impressively large speaker enclosures along the side edges of the display, and a 49-watt 2-speaker sound system with a mini subwoofer inside.
