It’s no secret that Macs are increasing in market share and user base swiftly and securely, with Macs continuing to experience increased sales despite a declining PC market. New tracking figures from NetMarketShare, however, suggest that Lion has boosted Mac adoption in an even stronger way than anticipated.

NetMarketShare’s latest data shows that Mac OS X has been enjoying a steadily climb up the global charts, rising from 5.6% in may up to 6.03% by the end of August. The US market share numbers have also risen, reaching 13.42% by the end of August.

Additionally, OS X 10.7 Lion, which began selling on July 20th, already accounts for over 1% of the overall computer market, compared to 1.17″ for Leopard and 3.46% for Snow Leopard. Market share for Leopard and Snow Leopard have both dropped significantly since the release of OS X Lion, while overall OS X usage has increased.
