Apple Begins Training Retail Managers on Union Awareness

Apple will be holding a training session today for new Apple Store managers to discuss unionizing among employees, reports CNet. The training will cover legal questions, and help managers understand the issue of unionization.

CNet cites an internal Apple document, which reads as follows:

This course is intended to provide managers with a practical understanding of how unions affect the workplace, how and why employees organize, and the legal do’s and don’ts of dealing with unions. This is a mandatory class for all new managers, and is required biannually for all managers.

I’m thrilled that Apple is making this course a required bi-annual training exercise, as unions are immensely important for protecting worker’s rights and ensuring fairness.

Apple employees began advocating for an Apple Retail Workers Union earlier this year to address underpayment issues for part-time employees, which is likely one of the main reasons that Apple is requiring this new training.
