Explosion at Apple Supplier Injures 61, Unlikely to Affect Production

Explosion at Apple Supplier Injures 61, Unlikely to Affect Production

61 factory workers have been injured after a blast rocked the Pegatron factory where they worked, reports Reuters. The factory supplies Apple with metal casings for their products, and factory management has responded that they are looking into the matter.

23 people were hospitalized as a result of the explosion, but the factory was not yet in full working order, reports say. Charles Lin, the CFO of Pegatron released this statement.

“The factory has not started operations yet. Part of the facility is still under pre-operation inspection and part is running trial production,”

Apple’s production in China has recently come under heavy scrutiny: in May, three workers were killed in a Foxconn factory producing iPad 2 units as a result of a dust explosion.

Fortunately, Reuters also reports that the incident is unlikely to significantly affect production:

Pegatron said in a statement released early on Sunday that there was some damage to machinery but it can readjust the facility so the impact on its operations and revenues will not be big.
