Apple Design Guru Jony Ive Awarded Knighthood in U.K.

Apple design guru Jonathan “Jony” Ive can now add a new title to his name tag: Sir. Ive was formally granted knighthood last week as part of the U.K.’s annual New Year Honours. The knighthood was bestowed in recognition of “services to design and enterprise.”

BBC reports that Ive, well-known as the brilliant mind behind many of Apple’s designs, is now a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The rank is a step up from the rank of “Commander” bestowed on him in 2006. From BBC:

Raised in Chingford, Mr Ive began working for Apple in 1992 and since then has been the brains behind many of its products.

Mr Ive added: “I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making.”
