Apple’s Founding Documents Sell for $1.6 Million

We reported late last month that Apple’s founding contract and other papers were headed to auction. While Sotheby’s originally estimated that the documents would sell for between $100,000-150,000, Bloomberg reports that the actual final sales price was a whopping $1.6 million.

The contract was signed on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, and established each person’s share in the company.

The documents were originally purchased by the auction house in the mid-1990s from a “manuscript dealer” who is believed to have purchased the papers from Wayne.

The name of the bidder has not been revealed.
