Apple’s ‘iTV’ Rumored to Run on Custom Chips like iPhone, iPad

Apple’s rumored “iTV” has been said to run on customized chips, just like the iPhone and iPad, Digitimes reports. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering and Siliconware Precision Industries are the three companies that reportedly battling to get the contract with Apple.

Apple reportedly already confirmed a deal with TSMC earlier this year regarding the new A6 and A7 chips for the iPhone and iPad, but it is unclear whether there was any agreement regarding an Apple TV included in the deal.

The report also stated that, like the iPhone and other Apple products, the new Apple TV will be built by Foxconn Electronics. Apple is expected to finalize the hardware standards for their TV at the end of Q2 2012, with a release expected by the end of next year.
