First Bluetooth 4.0 Heart Monitor App Appears in App Store

A new heart monitor app and accessory has been approved by Apple to take advantage of the new Bluetooth 4.0 technology found in the iPhone 4S, reports9to5Mac. CardioMapper takes advantage of the new low-power standard and tracks the user’s burned calories using the iPhone’s GPS, gyroscope and motion sensors.

You can purchase CardioMapper now in the App Store for $1.99, which seems like a pretty reasonable deal, considering all the functionalities of the app. It also offers all the other aspects of exercise analysis: distance, duration speed and pace.

However the company does warn that the continued use of the GPS in the background could slow your iPhone down, and more importantly, decrease battery life. Here are more details about the functionalities of the app:

To help you time High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), CardioMapper also includes an interval coach that can tell you when to increase or decrease your intensity. Time based custom messages allow you to enjoy your favorite iPod music playlists while the interval coach tells you messages at preset times. Perfect for BFL, HIIT and other common intensity based training, it comes with a dozen virtual coach routines but additional routines can be easily added.
