Cox Releases ‘TV Connect’ App for iPad – Our First Impression

Cox Communications now offers the free “Cox TV Connect” app to allow their subscribers to watch shows live on their iPad. Cox TV Connect allows customers with Cox TV Essential and Cox Preferred, Premier or Ultimate Internet service to watch a selection of channels live on their iPad.

The app allows you to:

  • Watch TV on your iPad from anywhere in your house.
  • Choose from more than 35 popular channels.
  • Yours to enjoy for free as a subscriber to Cox TV Essential and Cox Preferred, Premier or Ultimate Internet service.

As a Cox subscriber, I gave it a quick try on my iPad, and while my first impression is favorable, (the interface is clean, and easy to understand, as it consists only of a grid showing whats currently on, and also 1 hour of upcoming episodes,) I only saw 29 networks listed, but Cox does mention on the “TV Connect” App Store page that not all channels are currently available. (A&E, AMC, Bravo, The Cartoon Network, CNBC, CNN, and Disney are included.) The “anywhere in your house” part of their blurb infers that may be the only place you can use the app. I’ll have to try the app on a public Wi-Fi signal and see if the app still works.

This looks like a solid first step from Cox, but there’s room for loads of improvement. If you’re a Cox subscriber check it out, it’s free, which is always a good price.

“TV Connect” is available in the App Store.
