Twitter Launches New TweetDeck App in the Mac App Store

Following up the release of Twitter for iOS 4.0 and a new design for their website, Twitter has released a new HTML5-based version of their slightly more feature-rich TweetDeck app for PC and Mac (free, Mac App Store).

TweetDeck was previously based on Adobe AIR, suggesting that developers are beginning to move away from Adobe’s proprietary technologies in favor of open standards.

The app’s main features are supporting multiple Twitter accounts at once, scheduled tweets, filtering, posting simultaneously to Twitter and Facebook, as well as the multi-column view that many have come to expect.

Unfortunately, it’s a bit too obvious that the app is based on HTML5, as the app definitely behaves like a web client (for instance, when initially setting up multiple accounts, you must “sign out” from Twitter first).

TweetDeck for Mac is available now for free from the Mac App Store (link).
