Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 Set for CES Release, Could be Used on iPad 3 and iPhone 5

Corning has revealed that their new Gorilla Glass 2 will be unveiled at CES 2012. Gorilla Glass is used in all of Apple’s devices, from iPhones to iMacs, and the launch comes just in time for the rumored early-2012 launch of the iPad.  As such, it’s possible that the new glass could be used in Apple’s iPad 3 or iPhone 5.

Over 30 global brands use Gorilla Glass in their products, and Corning intend to “showcase the critical role of highly engineered specialty glass in addressing emerging trends” at CES.

There should be high demand for the new glass, but Apple should have the priority due to the relationship between the two companies. Apple currently buys as much Gorilla Glass as Corning can produce, and that is very unlikely to change with the launch of the new glass.
