Daily Mail: Apple to Bid on Premier League Football Rights for Apple TV

Apple is planning to bid on the rights to Premier League football for the Apple TV, the Daily Mail reports. The Premier League will consider bids for next season as the current deal with Sky and ESPN expires at the end of this season.

I live in the U.K., and if Apple were to get the rights it would be HUGE. There is no doubt that it will drastically increase their sales of Apple TVs if they do win the rights. It would be the selling point that nobody else has. That alone would be enough for millions to buy an Apple TV. Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in the world and attracts a global audience, so Apple would really not want to miss out.

Google is also reportedly interested, along with Sky, ESPN, and Al Jazeera. But if it came down to a bidding war, Apple could win easily with the spare money they have. I am a huge football fan, so I would be delighted if I could get the content through Apple without having to pay a subscription.
