‘Doors Now Open’ For Apple Retail Presence in India

A senior official in India’s Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has stated that Apple has been in discussions with the Indian government for some time over bringing its retail stores to India, livemint.com reports.

Previously, Indian policy banned single brand stores being owned by foreign companies, but the policy has now changed, so Apple could be coming to India in a big way pretty soon. India’s population is estimated at 1.2 billion, but it is soon expected to overtake China and become the world’s biggest.

Apple already dominates in the Chinese market, so for them to have a considerable presence in India would put huge pressure on competitors. Having their stores available to another 1.2 billion would have a huge impact.
