Spotify Shows Off Voice Controlled iOS App, May be Working on Siri Integration

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek is apparently as big a fan of Apple’s Siri technology as anyone, and according to Forbes, has shown off a hack allowing Siri-like voice control in their popular app.

Forbes’ article on Ek is quite lengthy, but the main highlight of the piece is its discussion of a voice-activated interface for Spotify:

Does he [Daniel Ek] plan on building a voice activated Spotify interface? He flashes a mischievous smile. “Play me some Coldplay,” he tells the phone. Its small speakers ring out with the opening piano chords of the band’s hit “The Scientist.” “We hacked into it a few weeks ago,” Ek says, with a satisfied nod. “I’m not an inventor. I just want to make things better.

It’s not clear what Ek meant by the term “hack,” but hopefully the result will be that either Spotify can work with Apple to integrate their app with Siri, or can at least come up with a good voice control mechanism of their own.
