Untethered iPhone 4S & iPad 2 Jailbreak Hits Unfortunate Hurdle

Despite his enthusiasm earlier this week, iOS hacker and jailbreak developer pod2g has provided an update on his blog suggesting that an untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak might not arrive as soon as he’d hoped.

The project has run into a significant hurdle which will have to be overcome before the jailbreak can be released. Pod2g explains:

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can’t be released publicly. It’s the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn’t distribute it. So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

There’s no way of knowing how long it might take for pod2g to overcome this hurdle, but it looks like the jailbreak won’t be arriving sometime next week as originally planned.
