Avid Studio Comes to the iPad, Gives iMovie a Run for its Money

Avid, makers of popular professional and semi-professional video and audio editing tools, have released Avid Studio for iPad ($4.99, App Store link) – a new pro-sumer video editing tool that should give Apple’s iMovie quite a run for its money.

Big-screen moviemaking comes to the touchscreen with Avid® Studio for iPad. We’ve distilled the world’s leading film-editing technology into an easy-to-use app that enables you to edit video, audio, and photos at the speed of your creativity.

While the app will necessarily be a bit more limited that Avid Studio for Windows, it is full featured enough for editing on the go. Avid bills the app as a companion to their desktop software, but the app likely has serious potential as a dedicated iPad video editing tool as well.

Avid’s app contains most of the same features as Apple’s iMovie, but expands on iMovie with additional features, such as support for multi-layer 3D animations. The app also seems to make exceptionally good use of the iPad’s touch interface, and can upload projects to iCloud, as well as share them via YouTube, Facebook, and email.

Avid Studio for iPad is available now for $4.99 (App Store link), but will increase to $7.99 after the first month. If you’re looking for an alternative to iMovie, Avid Studio seems like a great choice!
