How to Get a Refund from the App Store

At some time or another, most people will end up downloading a crappy app, or one that doesn’t work at all. It’s a frustrating, and even perhaps maddening experience. And there’s nothing to be done for it, right? Wrong! It is absolutely possible to get a refund from the App Store. Here’s how it’s done.

Obtaining a refund is a simple matter of reporting the problem to Apple. To file your complaint, simply open iTunes, and tap on your account (in the upper right-hand corner of the iTunes store). Next click “Purchase History,” and then “See All”. Choose the purchase that includes the faulty app, select “Report a Problem,” fill out the form and hit the Submit button.

That’s all there is to it! You should get a response from an iTunes support representative in a few days (sometimes up to a week or two) responding to your request. In most cases, they’ll issue a refund, especially if the issue is due to a functional problem with the app.

It’s worth noting that Apple doesn’t always provide refunds. Their standard policy is that all sales are final. But if your experience is anything like the few experiences I’ve had, you’ll likely find that Apple has your back and is eager to do the right thing.
