Apple Finishes 2011 as World’s Top Smartphone Maker

Apple have been crowned as the world’s top smartphone maker in the final quarter of 2011. According to analytics research firm IDC, . Apple shipped 37 million iPhones in Q4 2011 while maintaining a 23.5 percent market share.

The total smartphone shipment volumes for the quarter were 157.8%, 54% up on the same quarter last year, which shows the huge growth of the smartphone market. Interestingly though, it was Samsung that grew the most at 275%, compared to Apple’s 128%.

HTC shipped the least smartphones, with a meager 10.2 million, while Nokia shipped 19.6 million, even though this figure would not account for the Nokia Lumia, which has proven quite popular.
