Inkling Unveils Habitat, The First Real Competitor to iBooks Author

Digital textbook publishing company Inkling has unveiled their competitor to iBooks Author, MacGeneration reports. Called Habitat, it provides ‘scalable digital publishing for professionals’ and a variety of features including cross-platform publishing and automated error reporting.

Habitat has already been in use with Inkling’s production partners for a while, but they are now broadening it out to a wider audience. If you’re a publisher, you can register an interest here for the ‘Early Adopter’ program, but Habitat won’t be fully available to everyone until later this year.

Inkiling’s current production partners include Aptara and Innodata Isogen, but with the imminent public release of their new platform, many more new partners can be expected for the future. Whether it will compete with iBooks Author will have to be seen, but it certainly looks like a nice and simple platform.
