In yet another continuation of Proview’s case against Apple and the Chinese iPad trademark, China’s Intermediate People’s Court has ruled that distributors in the small city of Guangdong must stop selling the iPad.
While Apple insists that they own the rights to the iPad trademark, having purchased it from Proview several years ago, Proview refuses to honor the agreement, and insists that the Taiwanese affiliate that sold Apple the trademark did not have the authority to do so.
A court in Hong Kong previously ruled in Apple’s favor. There have been wins and losses on both sides, and it remains to be seen how this dispute will be concluded.
Proview has asked for an import/export ban against the iPad throughout China, and is also asking for monetary damages. Proview is reportedly struggling with bankruptcy, and may be seeking simply to improve their financial situation.
