Hackers ‘Actively Working On’ Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and New iPad

Following Apple’s recent release of iOS 5.1, notable iOS hacker pod2G is already actively working on finding an exploit and developing an untethered jailbreak for the update. A tethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak is already available for users of A4-based devices, such as the original iPad and the iPhone 4, and there is currently no solution available for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S owners.

pod2G revealed through Twitter that he is actively working on finding a solution, reports Redmond Pie, and as such currently doesn’t know when he’ll be able to come up with a working tool. The update was given in response to the question of when a jailbreak for the new iPad will be available.

In addition, pod2G also noted that fellow iOS hacker ion1c told him that “a little bird told me you’ll have a surprise soon.” Considering ion1c’s status in the jailbreak community (he developed the “absinthe” untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1), this surprise likely has something to do with the iOS 5.1 jailbreak effort.
