Intel Shipping New ‘Cactus Ridge’ Thunderbolt Controllers In Time For Next-Gen Macs

Intel has confirmed that it is now shipping its second generation Thunderbolt controllers codenamed ‘Cactus Ridge’, VR-Zone reports. This is perfectly timed to coincide rumors of a new Ivy Bridge Macbook Pro and Mac Pro, the latter not having received an update in a while.

Intel will be offering two different Cactus Ridge solutions in the DSL3310 and the DSL3510, with the latter being the more high end one. You can also use the latter to daisy chain devices, something impossible to do with the DSL3310.

As well as ‘Cactus Ridge’, Intel will also be shipping ‘Port Ridge’ which is the low cost version. As mentioned, these controllers should be used in the next gen Macs, with the iMac, the Macbook Pro and the Mac Pro all favorites to get an upgrade.
