iOS, Android, and the Rise of the Smartphone (Infographic)

I’d wager that the majority of you own a smartphone today. But 5 years ago, there was a very different story to be told. Before the iPhone hit the scene, followed shortly afterward by Google’s Android platform, smartphones were something of a rarity.

While there were smartphones such as the Palm TREO, early BlackBerry phones and Windows Mobile served the purpose of smartphones before Apple entered the scene, such devices were rare. But the world has now changed towards the smartphone revolution – nearly half of all U.S. mobile phones sold are now smartphones!

The folks at Lookout have produced an interesting infographic that maps out the rise of the two smartphone superpowers – Apple and Google – over the past 5 years. Check it out – it’s definitely worth a look (click to expand)!
