iPhone Makes Up Nearly 80% of AT&T’s Q1 Smartphone Sales

Despite the iPhone’s ongoing availability on Verizon and Sprint networks in the U.S., AT&T still appears to be the network of choice for iPhone users. In their annual earnings report, AT&T revealed that 78% of their Q1 smartphone sales went to the iPhone, making up 4.3 million of the 5.5 million devices sold.

Smartphones also reached 60% of AT&T’s total subscriber base, making the iPhone an extremely significant part of the carrier’s overall revenues. It’s also worth noting that AT&T also managed to outsell Verizon in iPhones last quarter, with Verizon having only sold 3.2 million iPhones.

While iPhone sales are down somewhat as a whole from last quarter (which was the launch quarter for the iPhone 4S, sales still remain extremely strong, accounting for over half of all activations of at least two out of three of the major U.S. carriers (Sprint has not reported their earnings yet).
