OWC Releases First Ever Mac Bootable PCI SSD

OWC has launched the first ever Mac bootable PCI SSD, allowing for super fast transfer speeds directly from your PCI slot. Compatible with both PC and Mac (a nice upgrade for a Mac Pro!), it comes in models ranging from 120GB to a whopping 960GB, the largest SSD capacity available.

Called the Mercury Accelsior, it offers speeds of up to 780 Mb/s and won’t use up any of your SATA ports. If you have a Mac Pro, you can therefore fill up all your SATA bays with 2TB drives, boot off the Accelsior and be in possession of the ultimate Mac.

I wouldn’t get that carried away though. The PCI option is considerably more expensive than a normal SSD, with prices starting from $359.99 for the 120GB model and going all the way up to $2,095 (yes, almost the price of a whole Mac Pro) for the 960GB model. Nevertheless, if you have the need for speed, you might want to take a closer look.
