Significant Progress Made on Untethered iOS 5.1 and New iPad Jailbreak

Well-known iOS hacker pod2g announced some exciting news on Twitter this morning, revealing that all required exploits have now been found for an iOS 5.1 jailbreak – significant progress towards releasing the jailbreak to the masses.

The jailbreak specifically targets Apple’s newer A5-based devices (the iPhone 4 and original iPad have already been jailbroken), and considering that the new iPad was technically jailbroken within hours of being released, it’s likely the jailbreak will support Apple’s new iPad when it is released.

While there’s still no official word on when we can expect the jailbreak, this is still a huge step forward in the process. In the meantime, users who rely on jailbreaking should avoid updating their devices to iOS 5.1.
