Apple Seeds Updated OS X Mountain Lion Preview, Xcode 4.4 Preview 4 to Developers

Apple has just released an update to OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 (build 12A178q). It’s unclear why Apple decided to push the update, or why they released an updated version of Developer Preview 3 rather than seeding Developer Preview 4.
In an e-mail to developers, Apple explained the process for updating to the new build:
Get the update from the Mac App Store.
If you already have Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 installed, choose Software Update from the Apple menu to download the update from the Mac App Store. Download Xcode 4.4 Developer Preview 4 from the Mac Dev Center to continue building apps for Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 Update.
Don’t have Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3?
If you haven’t already installed Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3, get your redemption code from the Mac Dev Center. You can redeem this code to download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store.

Apple has also released Developer Preview 4 of Xcode 4.4. The Xcode preview requires either OS X Mountain Lion or OS X Lion. The updates are available to registered developers through Apple’s developer portal.
