Apple Testing Web-Based Notifications on iCloud.com

Apple is apparently testing a new web-based notification system on their iCloud website, reports MacRumors. The notification appears similar to notifications on iOS 5, but only displays “dummy” text, suggesting that the feature was accidentally added to the site before Apple intended.

It’s unclear what Apple may be planning to do for the notification system – they have already integrated notifications in iOS 5 and OS X Mountain Lion. Could they be adding a system for allowing users to access their notifications from a remote computer? Are they testing a new web-based notification system that syncs between OS X and iOS devices?

At this point, very little is known about why the notifications appeared on iCloud.com or what they mean – but it could become very interesting in the future. What do you think they might be planning?
