Blizzard Releases Diablo III

Blizzard Releases Diablo III

It’s been over a decade in coming, but Diablo III has finally arrived! Blizzard Entertainment finally released the long-anticipated next chapter in their Diablo series this morning, and the game is available immediately direct from Blizzard and at a variety of other venues.

From Blizzard:

Twenty years have passed since the Prime Evils were defeated and banished from the world of Sanctuary. Now, you must return to where it all began – the town of Tristram – and investigate rumors of a fallen star, for this is the first sign of evil’s rebirth, and an omen that the End Times have begun…

It’s not often that major game studios release titles for the Mac at the same time the PC version is released, making today’s release of Diablo III especially significant. Not a lot of attention is paid to gaming on the Mac, and it’s refreshing to see one of the big dogs nodding in Apple’s direction.

Even better, a single license for Diablo III can be used on both the Mac and the PC – whichever platform you choose! System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, Intel Core 2 Duo-equipped Mac with Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT or ATI Radeon HD 2600 or better, 2GB RAM, and 12GB hard disk space.

Diablo III is available immediately both as a digital download from Blizzard, and as a boxed title from Amazon.com and other vendors. Personally, I’d recommend snagging a boxed copy, as I appreciate the booklets and other various goodies often included in the package!
