Moron Steals iPhone, Uploads Identifying Pictures to Photo Stream

Most criminals aren’t very smart – they obviously don’t think things through all the way, or they wouldn’t get caught. Sometimes, however, the level of stupidity is so high it’s almost painful to think about – like a cruise line worker who took personal pictures on a stolen iPhone without disabling Photo Stream (via MG Seigler).

Katy McCaffrey’s iPhone was swiped recently while she was on a cruise. Despite her efforts, she wasn’t making any progress on getting her iPhone back – until the thief (Nelson), a worker on the cruise ship, made an especially stupid mistake, and began taking pictures with the device.

Of course, Nelson didn’t bother restoring the device, or even disabling Photo Stream, so every photo he took showed up on any other iOS device that Katy had signed in with her Apple ID. The pictures clearly showed that the thief worked for the cruise line.

Katy quickly took action, uploading a sample of the photos to a public Facebook album, and forwarding the photos to the cruise line. CultofMac notes that the employee has now been fired, and with any luck, will be arrested and charged for his crime.

Justice: Stupidity’s greatest foe.
