T-Mobile Prepares Network for the iPhone

T-Mobile has been sore that they haven’t been able to offer the iPhone for some time now due to an incompatible wireless network. But rather than moaning, the carrier is now doing something about it – upgrading their network to be compatible with the iPhone!

In a recent press release, T-Mobile announced that they are modernizing their network, adding HSPA+ services in the 1900 MHz band, which would improve data speeds significantly, as well as significantly improve their network’s compatibility with the iPhone:

As part of the company’s network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year. Network modernization trials have shown up to a 33 percent increase in HSPA+ data speeds as well as improved in-building coverage. Rolling out 4G HSPA+ services in the 1900 MHz band will also provide customers with the ability to use a broader range of devices, including the iPhone, on T-Mobile’s 4G network.

Despite the fact that T-Mobile’s network doesn’t currently fully support the iPhone, and that they are not one of Apple’s official carrier partners, there are still over a million iPhones on their network – something that could be significant improved if Apple allowed them to carry the device.

The report states that their network will be iPhone-ready by the end of the year – but should it be sooner? Will they be able to have their network ready by the time Apple launches the next iPhone?
