The Hidden Secrets of Apple Icons

Every now and then Apple likes to hide secret messages in their icons – like the hidden Steve Jobs tribute in an OS user icon! OS X is filled with examples. Maybe they do this to see how long it takes people to find them, or maybe they do it for personal reasons – nobody really knows.

TheNextWeb‘s Matthew Panzarino took the time to dig up nearly a dozen hidden messages in Apple icons, including several that list significant portions of the text from Apple’s 1984 ‘Think Different” ad, as seen in the Notes (from OS X Mountain Lion) and TextEdit icons above (click to expand). The files icon off to the right even includes a line that was originally part of the ad, but was removed before the spot aired!

Any Apple fan that loved secret decoder rings as a kid should have an appreciation for the hidden messages in many of Apple icons – or anyone that likes discovering things “beneath the surface” of the product they use everyday!
