iPhone Nearly Twice as Profitable for Apple Than iPad

Reuters says today that an unsealed document in the Apple-Samsung legal brouhaha reveals that the iPhone generates more profit for Apple than the iPad does. How much more? How about twice as much per unit!

Reuters, via 9to5Mac:

Apple Inc earned gross margins of 49 to 58 percent for U.S. iPhone sales between April 2010 and the end of March 2012…Apple had gross margins of 23 to 32 percent on U.S. iPad sales, the filing said.

So, if we do some Jethro Bodine-like cyphering we come to one conclusion. Since they cost roughly the same amount, Apple makes as much money selling one iPhone as it does from the sale of TWO iPads.
