Make a Mountain Lion Bootable Restore Disk The Easy Way With Lion Diskmaker

We recently told you how to make a USB backup of your OS X Mountain Lion Installer, but maybe you’re the kind of person who likes to have it all done for you automatically. Well there’s good news for you my lazy friend…

Lion Disk Maker is an application programmed with AppleScript. Using it with Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and OS X 10.8, you can burn a DVD, or create a bootable drive, (USB, Firewire drive, or an SD-Card), from a Mac OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion Installation program.

When you launch the app, it searches for your OS X Install program. It then asks to build a DVD or create a bootable install disk.

Of course, to burn a DVD you’ll need a SuperDrive, and a writable DVD, (of course). To build a bootable disk, you’ll need an 8 GB (minimum) USB thumb key drive, a USB or Firewire drive or an SD-Card.

Be sure to read the FAQ on the website, as it is possible to format your hard drive if you don’t pay attention to what’s going on. You’ve been warned.

I used Lion Disk Maker to create a Lion Install USB when I first bought Lion. It worked great. (Hi, I’m Chris, and I’m a lazy son of a gun…)

Lion Disk Maker is available at the Serial Serveur website. The app is “Donationware”. If you use it, and you like the way it works, drop a few bucks the developer’s way, OK?
